Unemployment and the City:
Unemployment and the City:
I realize that nowadays, “anything and the city” is going to produce an immediate connection to those 4 women, but that is not where I’m trying to take this. It just sounds better than “Unemployment.” Recently, unemployment and the economy have been the centrifuge of CNN, and this phenomena has hit close to many more people on this island. Unemployment is the new black; the new hot club everyone is finding themselves at.
I am inexperienced in this unemployment arena, and will be documenting the process, as well as the next few weeks of the sudden abundance of free time I will have on my hands.
A little background for all you (5) readers: I was working as an assistant to 2 VPs at an Investment Firm. Almost made it an entire year too. This was my first job out of college, and graduating with a degree in Communications, I wasn’t expecting to sit behind a desk all day making phone calls, arranging meetings, and being criticized and demeaned by one of my bosses. It essentially resulted in a huge source of unhappiness, one that ultimately cost a relationship and caused me to become a completely different person. So when I was told I was being let go, there was almost this immediate feeling of relief.
I can now explore other outlets and find something that I really enjoy doing. Even in these tough times, there is work to be done, and if worse comes to worst with my bills, and I have to start working 10th Avenue, then so be it. I am on a search for something that is going to make me happy, even if I’m poor.
